I just listened to the episode about Mean Girls the other night and would like to add that I’m one of the victims. I also believe that I’m the kind of person that, looking back, would allow people to treat me badly (and still do). I don’t know why, but I’ve always been the nice girl who’d help someone up if he/she fell instead of laugh at them. But for some weird reason, I’m always being ‘ganged up’ on. It wasn’t until recently (keep in mind that I’m almost 30), that I would do anything to avoid an argument or being disliked by someone. It took two joblosses and a few breakdowns for me to realize that I matter too. Any young girl out there, don’t be afraid to get hurt if someone threatens to kick your behind, because in the long run, you’ll be only postponing it. I’ve never been in a fight, but I feel today that I’ve always cowarded away to avoid them, but that only made me into a wimp. I no longer feel that way. I think if today anyone threatens to hit me, I’d say “go right ahead.” I’d probably get my butt kicked, but I’ll throw in a few good punches too… ;-) BTW, Jenn, I’m in the same boat with the emoticons… only blinky and happy for me… everyone else’s out of my generation… LOL

  1. [...] Geek loves Nerd :Show 65 – Mean Girls Both my 8 yr old daughter & 4 yr old son have had to deal with mean girls recently in school. My older daughters were homeschooled until they went to Jr high and I remember when they went back to public school ,their reaction to the Mean Girls was, “What on earth is wrong with these people?” . They just thought they were stupid. Now I’m hearing news from one twin that her sister is becoming one of the mean girls. Oy. Anyway, this episode of the podcast offered some good discussion & insight about mean girls – why they are that way (in my 13 year old’s case,I think she’s just reacting to the example of other girls) and what to do if your kid is on the receiving end of mean girl shenanigans.
